Walk and talk

Do you find you do your best thinking outdoors?

Maybe you’re drawn into green spaces when things are getting complex. If you’re a fan of getting out into the fresh air, let’s go together, and walk and talk!

In an increasingly digital world, the analogue activities we do feel more and more purposeful, important, and even, in some ways, rebellious.

Getting out of the office can be invigorating, and that’s why I offer outdoor walking and talking for all my clients. For those near enough to me in the North East of England, we can do that face to face, out in the fresh air. For those further afield, with a head set or hands free earbuds of some description, you can get out in nature, and bring me along via phone call!

Drop me an email, using the address below, or book straight into my calendar for a no-charge consultation.

Headteacher Dominic, said this about his outdoor coaching with me:
'I’ve been working with Helen for a number of years now. More recently, we’ve been able to meet in person, usually for a walk. The opportunity to move, whilst getting some fresh air, somehow adds to the coaching experience. I’d really recommend giving ‘walk and talk’ a go! '

In person walk and talk

If you're based in the North East, we can meet up in one of our wonderful local outdoor spaces. Personal favourites for me include the Tyne riverside and Jesmond Dene. But I'm open to suggestions. For in-person walk and talk coaching or supervision, the cost is £125 per hour for locations within a 20 mile radius of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. If you're a bit further afield, there might be a small additional cost to cover my transport.

Walk and talk via phone call

If you're a bit further afield, you can still gain the advantages of outdoor coaching. You just need to use a headset or hands free device, so that we can be on the phone together as you walk and talk in your favourite outdoor location. The cost for this is just the same as the coaching and supervision packages listed on the relevant pages.

Benefits of outdoor coaching/supervision

David Clutterbuck, one of the most highly respected writers on coaching said this:

‘Walking in nature while coaching or mentoring provides us with an opportunity to do just that – just noticing, sensing and wondering to prepare the mind for deep and original grappling with issues. . .  '

Some of the benefits of outdoor coaching include:

  • Increased creativity and perspective: the natural environment widens thinking and provides a, calm, fresh perspective away from the office.

  • Boosted mental and physical well-being: being in nature reduces stress, and provides a restorative environment for reflection.

  • Stronger Rapport: Walking and talking in nature often breaks down formal barriers faster, building deeper rapport between coach and coachee.
